I Don’t Like Mondays 04/10/10

October 4, 2010

Hello darling! I have to admit that I’ve been pretty ill for a couple of days so I haven’t felt up to blogging all that much but fear not – I haven’t forgotten about you (I’m just not going to write anything for you!)

I’ve kept up with my gratitude lists for sure, but I also haven’t left my bed much today, therein lies a dilemma. To solve to dilemma, you’ll all have to contribute ^-^ Leave all your favourite things this past week in a comment below! I’ve added the amazing video Joe sent me for you to watch to get the ball rolling so to speak…. you’ll get the pun when you watch it!

Can’t wait to hear what’s making you all smile,

all my love,

Lizzi x

P.S. DFTBA! ^-^

I Don’t Like Mondays 20/09/10

September 20, 2010

Hello darling ^-^ This week has been exciting to say the least… Every Monday I write ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ about my favourite things in the past week, to beat the Monday blues and practise gratitude. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those of you who do not join in with me! (You see what I did there? No? Go look it up) Anyways my favourite things of the past week have been:

* Being inspired by and making me want to write songs!

* Okay again with music thing, i love my baby. By that I mean my bass.

* I love the Peculiar Pretzelmen! How epic is this video?

* In my fathers house it takes about a minute for things to change from washing dishes to everybody dancing together in the kitchen..sometimes I think I live in a movie – the not very entertaining but probably fun to film kind.

* Last Wednesday was my idea of absolute bliss. If you haven’t had a day like that this week – make one. I feel like the luckiest person on the planet.

* Spending so much time with Sammie that we’ve been adopting each others habits, this is all fine and dandy as so far I’m better at judging fictional characters and her words are deteriorating (sorry Sammie!) 😀 I just can’t wait ’til I adopt her voice…

What are you guys all excited about recently? Let me know!
Love and epic times,
Lizzi x

Hyperbole and a half is love ^-^

I Don’t Like Mondays 06/09/10

September 6, 2010

‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ is the perfect blend of good memories, gratitude and super radness to create what we call, ‘The Monday Blues Assassin!’ You know the drill! My favourite things this past week have been:

* My dad surprising me with the first issue of CLiNT on the morning it came out! He’s the sweetest!

* The totally rad blog – Hyperbole and a Half! I have read article after article this week ’cause they are just hilarious.

* Being Sims compatible with Sammie! I never thought the day would come to know someone else who has to pause between actions!

* Getting my tidy on! I’ve been ruthlessly obliterating a mountain of clothes and I can’t wait to be done!

* My four year old sister genuinely believes that zombies exist. I find this adorable but obviously must be a bit scary for her…

* I love Friday nights in. I don’t care how much of a loser that makes me. I love them.

* Thinking about Halloween all the time! Listening to ooky-spooky music, planning my costume and thinking of ways to win over cynics!

* Dressing like Doctor Who because everybody knows bowties are cool.

Boxes full of love,

Lizzi x

I Don’t Like Mondays 16/08/10

August 16, 2010

Hello darling, how have you been? Every Monday I write a gratitude list of my favourite things of the past week to beat the Monday blues! It has been just over a year that I’ve been doing this (though I was idle about it to begin with) so I’m really quite proud of that actually… I think it’ll probably stick with me. I’m always thinking about what is good right now, so I don’t forget it later. Anyways, hope you’ve had a good week – I certainly have, here’s why:

* Oh my gosh Toy Story 3! It is fantastic and wonderful. I saw it twice and cried a total of about 6 times..but please don’t let that put you off! My little four year old sister completely bawled but came out with a huge smile on her face and a skip in her step, so trust me on this one.

* Speaking of movies and my little sister, I introduced My Neighbour Totoro to her and she loved it! I’m totally pleased because now I can share all the Ghibli movies with her and together we can plan the Ghilbi World Resort…like Disney World only, a little more Japanese.

* The fact the my family are Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy nerds! In the car my brother noticed a bypass in construction which lead to lots of quotes being quoted and jokes being shared 🙂

* If you follow my twitter, you’ll know that I’m so obsessed with slam poetry, to the point of which I was reciting my favourites in my head because I missed watching them while was away! Why are there no slam poetry readings in my city?

* Perhaps I’ve already mentioned, but I’m planning for halloween already! It is awesome…ok.

* Reading KERA on the train, this is how I like to travel.

* Listening to soundtracks! I’ve listened to Tu Mira from Kill Bill loads recently, because it’s just so awesome.

* Visiting the cute Italian café in town with my mother. The whole place and the people who work there are like a exact balance Welsh (that’s here) and Italian culture. So awesome.

* Meeting someone awesome who works at Lush! We talked about sewing, vintage fairs and period dramas :>

Live long, prosper and all that jazz,
Lizzi x

August 2, 2010

Hello darling! I’ve really missed writing ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ – it feels like it’s been too long! Every Monday I write a gratitude list of things I have loved in the past week because, as you know by now, gratitude is a key to happiness. It’s not about what you wish would happen etcetera – it’s about loving everything you’ve got right now. (Don’t you just love that word now?) However since I was away last Monday, I didn’t get to tell you what I loved about that week! So without further ado – my adventures in France!

* One of the cutest things I saw was a little boy with a guitar in a big plastic bag – it looked like he’d just bought it and in his excitement he was trying to play it through the plastic!

*Sitting and reading in the sunshine of the apartments lime tree garden (patio thing!) = Bliss! I had so much lovely free time so I read Runaways – Vol.1,  The Happy Prince and Other Stories, The Graveyard Book and That Was Then, This Is Now. I loved all of them♥

* Shed tournaments (that’s a card game, for those of you with the confused faces) with my brothers! My luck was pretty bad but it was still lots of fun ^-^

* (Excuse my lameness for this one but) At customs I’d forgotten to put my perfume in a ‘seal-able bag’ so when I got called up for it and of course I didn’t want it taken off me, I pulled some tissues out of their packet and put the perfume inside… apparently that was fine as long as I could seal it! Ha!

* Spending a the evening under the moon on the pier. This was beautiful. The water looked like liquid onyx and there people all around singing and drinking… gosh it was so gorgeous.

* Going to four different art galleries in a week! We went to a contemporary gallery that was four floors high! I pretty skipped with glee around the whole place!

* I went to my first professional gig (I know, I know) to see Joshua Redman and Roy Hargrove in a the  mega awesome festival: Jazz A Juan! So I’ve nothing to compare it to but it was the (band) best stage I’ve ever seen! It was right on the coast, so beyond the stage you could see all along the ocean and we watched the sunset…. What more can I say?

Love and serenades,

Lizzi x

I Don’t Like Mondays 12/07/10

July 12, 2010

Hello darling, hows your week? The blog may have changed name, but is still sailing the ship of happiness! (oh excuse me!) ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’  is a weekly way of practising gratitude because as you know by now,  gratitude is what sugar is to cake, what snow is to Antarctica and what Peach is to Mario. Without further ado, my favourite things of the past week have been:

* Finding out about Gokinjo Monotagari – I love Ai Yazawa but I only knew about Paradise Kiss and NANA until now! It was a wonderful discovery

* My funny nurse. I went for a check on a few things and she said, “So it looks like there’s nothing wrong…. is that okay?” and my printed result also said Age:9 ^-^

* Wearing a dress I’d bought from a local charity store to be stopped by a pretty lady (with dreadlocks no less!) who told me it used to be hers and she was glad it went to me! Have you had any experiences like this? I would love to hear about them!

* I bought a bowler hat….that’s all I need to say really!

* This conference on how schools kill creativity comes recommended!

* Making a vision board (you can see a little video of it here) – this sort of illustrates my goals, aesthetics and where I want head with the blog.

* Spending the weekend with my little sisters! I have said how adorable they are but allow me to do it again…They are adorable!

* Finding out that there’s going to be another café/gallery in my area ^-^ I consider myself to be so lucky where I am.

* Having vivid dreams almost every night for a week! Dreams are one of my favourite things ever ever.

Love and sunshine,
Lizzi x

P.S. I’m in France next week (yay!) so chances of ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ on the 19th are slim…. but I’ll see what I can do!

I Don’t Like Mondays 05/07/10

July 5, 2010

Well hello there people of the internet! It is my Monday tradition to brighten the week from the day it begins and so I bring you ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ (which I will totally have to cover on ukulele!) Some wonderful things of recent times have been:

* This is a fantastic argument, that Disneyland is for everyone – not just kids and tourists!

* Starting a love affair with my local park! I’m in love now even with leaves o_o and I have a favourite spot! It’s a place which I find mysterious which s always welcome.

* My prom was last Thursday! I will write more on this for ‘Quite Contrary Guide To Prom’

* Simply the word (or is it a phrase?) Gobble-dee-goop

* It was @daisygunner’s birthday last week -she’s super awesome so send her your wishes!

*Everybody loves songs about Doctor Who, right?

* I’m starting pilates and yoga this week! Oh my! It’s exciting but I’ve never been one to routinely exercise so I’m a little nervous too!

* Planing new plans! Ooh! What say you readers if I were to make this blog less general and to have set theme?

* Glitter, Bowie and glam rock oh my! *awe*

* Getting back into J-fashion (now shush you!). It’s so colourful and inspiring o_o

* Rasputina are my summer bandsee reference!

Love and wonka bars,

Introducing – Mr. Brian Slade!

I Don’t Like Mondays 28/06/10

June 28, 2010

Hello darling, I’ve a confession to make. Throughout the week I write things down, make mental notes and draft up a post for the following ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ and I choose all my favourite bits and that becomes the post . However, this week I haven’t done that! Forgive me! The thing is – I’m free now (of compulsory education that is.) I think I took freedom a little literally and totally neglected my blog!

Not just every Monday – but every day I think of what I am thankful for, even if it was a bad or if nothing in particular happened because thinking about what I do have and can be thankful for makes me so much happier than I would if I were to think about everything bad or how it could have been better. I know, I know it sounds obvious but it is a hard habit to get into but once you have it makes such a difference. Just do it now. What was the best thing about today?  Try to think of five things. Even little things – don’t judge what makes you happy. Even if it’s just the look on someones face, the shine on your shoes or just some damn good coffee.

So hey, but it’s not specifically relevant to this week but I am so happy and grateful for:

The amazing power of a smile, beautiful magic music, infinite creativity, the seasons, the way that trees, yes trees, can take my breath away, gorgeous teriyaki salmon -you are beautiful! I love kindness, I love bad jokes, I love only every reading half the books I take out from the library because I always go overboard. Vivid dreams, aliens, the smell of baking, cookie dough ice cream, poetry, people with wit, the things children say, petticoats, comic books and the fact that we live in a generation in which you can make a living by making toy food with faces on is all awesome. I could ramble more but I think that’ll do for one day.

All my love and plastic magic wands,

Lizzi x

Hey darling, thanks for reading ‘I Don’t Like Mondays’ and for bearing with me while I get my exams over and done with! Every Monday I write about the best things of my past week, and encourage you to the same. Last week I loved:

* Seeing the message ‘cogito ergo sum’ written in the steam of the mirror – it mean’s ‘I think, therefore I am.’ Descartes

* HAVING A SQUIRREL IN AN EXAM HALL. It was running around and got pretty close to me!

* The announcement of Portal 2! – Watch this in HD! “It’s been a long time…”

* Reading Stardust – Neil Gaiman is one of my favourite authors. The words flow like a river o_o

* Having a wonderful day with @elencatrin! Radios, cute cafés, street performers, confusing street signs galore!

* Reading Scott Pilgrim ^-^ It’s so creative! Have you read it?

All my love,
Lizzi x

I saw Angel-A yesterday, I recommend ^-^

June 14, 2010

Hey everyone ^-^ It’s Monday again! The exams are almost over! There’ll be way more (and hopefully) better posts when they’re over! What have your favourite things been this past week? Mine are:

* Being asked “May we follow you?” when running into friends in town

* Learning Love Will Tear Us Apart on my ukulele!

* This video is so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes – not many things do that!

* Accidentally finding a book of John Donne’s poems from my mother to my father from the year I was born.

* Getting lost on the way to an exhibition and deciding to go book shopping instead!

* Seriously dramatic classical music! Rachmaniov FTW, you know what I’m sayin’?

* Did anyone else notice Russel Howard’s ‘Boy with a Shed for a Head’ in the Alejandro video?

* Finally making playlists on Spotify! Share with me ^-^

Love and lemon cake,
Lizzi x

P.S. Don’t forget Fathers Day!
